We offer co-ed dorms (all gender), female-only dorms, double bed in a mixed dorm room, and private rooms. Our rooms are either 4-bed, 6-bed, or 8-bed dorm style, and every bed is a bunk bed.

Each bed has a large storage locker, reading light, fan, four plug outlet and privacy curtains. Every room comes with AC (summers) and radiator heaters. Shared bathrooms are individual units with sink, shower, toilet, and locking door for total privacy. $1 towel service or $5 padlock available for purchase at the front desk.

Note our lobby is located on the second floor, but our front desk is more than happy to help you with your bags up the stairs.

You can't do much better than this at a hostel. I've only occasionally seen better and never in the US. The showers are extremely good. Rooms are well designed. Kitchen is great. Staff are helpful. And the place is just extraordinarily well run.

This hostel was the best part of my first trip to Seattle. Great clean rooms, washrooms, amazing friendly staff, good breakfast, evening plans which sometimes include food or drinks, the gathering room is the best with card games, massage lounge chairs, lots of seating and the best environment to enjoy with people from across the world at any hour of day or night.

Overall, 5-star experience for this "2 star hotel".

LOCATION! Right in the heart of downtown Seattle. Walkable, Bikeable, public transport, art, culture, architecture, cuisine, entertainment, all just a short stroll away.

I visited for 2 days and nights. Crew at the hostel were great, keeping the place clean and organized. They were very friendly, professional, and helpful thru my brief stay.

The first night I was there was ice cream night! Having a sweet treat was such a a delight after running around the city, sightseeing. The next night was another offering, but I missed my chance, due to concert that had originally called me to Seattle. And breakfast offered was just what I needed to get the days started strong!

Thanks Green Tortoise crew! I can't wait to visit again! Maybe in Seattle, San Francisco, or perhaps one of the great adventure offerings.

As a PCT thru-hiker, the Green Tortoise Hostel was exactly what I needed when I rolled into Seattle. The location is unbeatable–right across from Pike Place Market–so food, coffee, and city vibes are just steps away.

The bunk setup was comfortable, clean, and way nicer than I expected after weeks of sleeping in a tent. Showers were hot, bathrooms well-kept, and the kitchen was stocked enough for a hiker-sized appetite. The free breakfast was a huge bonus, too.

What really stood out was the community vibe. Other travelers (and a few hikers) made it easy to connect, and the staff were super friendly and helpful with local tips. It felt like a perfect reset before heading back to the trail.

If you're hiking the PCT and need a place in Seattle to rest, recharge, and eat all the things, this is the spot. I'll definitely be back.

Our Story

The World Famous Green Tortoise Adventure Travel began in the 90s, with one sturdy bus and the realization that beautiful places, great food, and sociable people were the only essentials for gratifying travel experiences.

The Green Tortoise hostels in Seattle and San Francisco are built on the fine tradition of a social communal experience. We have expanded and refined the hostel experience with free internet, free meals, private bathrooms, and comforts that make The Green Tortoise unique.

Directions

We are located at 105B Pike Street, Seattle, WA 98101 across the street from Pike Place Market, with our entrance along Pike St. See below for directions from Seattle's popular transportation terminals.

From Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

The Link Light Rail (1-Line) connects Sea-Tac Airport and Downtown Seattle with trains running every 15 minutes (from 5am-12am) for $3 per ride. You can purchase your ticket at the station using cash or card.

– Take North and exit downtown at Symphony Station. Walk toward Union St to Pike St. Turn left on Pike St.

– If you exit at Westlake Station, from Pine St walk toward 2nd Ave. Turn left at 2nd Ave and right at Pike St.

– Our front door is located on Pike St in between Seattle Shirt Company and Target. Our reception is on the second floor.

Seattle Yellow Cab taxis can be found 24/7 on the third floor of the airport parking garage, and offer a $45 flat rate to the Downtown Seattle Hotel District. Rideshare apps Lyft and Uber are also widely available in the greater Seattle area, plus a range of taxi and shuttle services.

Travel tip: download map directions before leaving the airport.

From King St (Amtrak) Station

From King St Station, take the Link Light Rail (1-Line) from International District/Chinatown Station. Trains are running every 15 minutes (from 5am-12am) for $3 per ride. You can purchase your ticket at the station using cash or card.

Car Parking

We offer a $5 discount for guests parking at the West Edge (or Place) Garage on Pike & 2nd Ave (please note the garage has no in-and-out privileges).

– Bring your ticket to our front desk before paying for discounted parking at $21 per 24 hours.

– Current garage hours: 7am-7pm.

If you arrive after 7pm, street parking is available 8pm-8am throughout the city. We recommend driving down Elliott Ave or Western Ave near the Olympic Scuplture Park, about a 10-15 minute walk from the hostel through Pike Place Market.

– Free from 8pm-8am, paid 4hr max 8am-12pm.

– Take a photo of the location number and instructions for how to pay, along with the license plate. You can pay online from your phone without being at your car.

Read all signs as Seattle will tow vehicles parked improperly or during no parking times. There is always a risk of breakins with parking in Seattle.
